El Paso makes $198m from further asset sales

Houston-based energy company El Paso Corp has sold four more power plants to Northern Star Generation for $147 million, continuing its mass sell-off of assets. El Paso’s merchant energy subsidiary has also received a final instalment of $51 million on the sale of contracts related to its Elba Island liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal in Georgia.

El Paso has now sold 21 of the 25 domestic power plants that it had in January agreed to sell to Northern Star for $746 million. With the close of the latest transaction, El Paso has received $569 million and eliminated $39 million of non-recourse debt from this group of power plants.
