Treasury pledges to fight terrorist funding

LONDON – Economic secretary to the UK Treasury, Ed Balls MP, reinforced the government's commitment to fighting terrorist financing in a parliamentary speech and in a presentation to a British Bankers' Association conference in October.

Balls, a key ally of Chancellor Gordon Brown MP – who is widely considered to become Prime Minister when Tony Blair steps down next year – put forward the government's action plan in his parliamentary speech. On behalf of the Treasury, Balls asked the Privy Council to adopt a new Terrorism (United Nations Measures) Order that will update the existing order – including changes to the way domestic
