With the growth of the current hedge fund industry throughout the 1990s came the concept of prime brokerage, with banks offering a suite of products and services to a fund. These symbiotic one-stop shops now underpin the hedge fund industry, and financial institutions compete fiercely to offer best of breed services. As the energy trading industry grows, banks may find there is a similar opportunity to offer prime brokerage to energy companies.
