Industry experts from the energy and commodities markets offered contrasting viewpoints about a proposal from the US Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) to rein in automated trading, speaking at an April 26 meeting of the CFTC's Market Risk Advisory Committee.

Called Regulation AT, the proposal would force automated trading firms to register with the CFTC and adopt pre-trade risk controls and other measures. The proposal, unveiled in November, has already seen pushback from energy firms
