Dow Jones and Barron’s collaboration launches new index

The collaboration between index provider Dow Jones and US financial magazine Barron’s, has launched the Barron’s 400 Index which will track the performance of highly liquid US stocks.

The index contains stocks which are rated by fundamental criteria that measure companies’ profitability, cashflow and growth and value style characteristics. Securities must have a minimum float-adjusted market capitalisation of US$250 million while real estate investment trusts (Reits) are ineligible for inclusion.

Analysis and rating of stocks is conducted by Florida-based research firm MarketGrader.

The index is intended to underlie financial products such as mutual funds, exchange-traded funds
