Absolute definitions

Ucits-III has given fund managers the option of using derivatives to go short in various funds in the absolute return sector. Now, Standard & Poor's has developed a rating and scanning process for these products. Amanda Lee reports

Standard & Poor's Fund Services (S&P) last month launched a classification system and ratings research process for absolute return funds. So far, however, there are just 13 undertakings for collective investments in transferable securities (Ucits) III-compliant absolute return funds that have achieved a rating.
