Asia sharpens appetite for innovation


Asia saw a significant increase in structured products issuance last year, signifying the emergence of a burgeoning structured products market in areas such Hong Kong and Taiwan, according to the BNP Paribas annual review of the industry. In fact, product issuance in Asia excluding Japan increased by a staggering 36% on 2003 figures, hitting $22 billion in 2004.

The region is widely regarded as an innovative market with a preference for high-yield products a the survey notes. BNP says it
