MSCI rebalancing catches out index speculators

Hedge funds and other speculators seeking to profit from the recent Morgan Stanley Capital International (MSCI) index rebalancing took clear losses, according to a recent report by Goldman Sachs. The index rebalancing was expected to show a decline in the performance of index deletions and a gain in index additions. However, contrary to expectations, index additions showed negative performance, while deletions saw little or no change.
