Potential Future Exposure (PFE)

The potential maximum value of a portfolio over its lifetime. PFE is a measure used primarily for credit risk measurement to assess the expected exposure to a counterparty. There are numerous methodologies available for the calculation of PFE, from simple ‘weight-based’ calculations to those based on complex simulations.
