Marco Schönborn
NERA Economic Consulting
Marco Schönborn is an expert in energy markets, regulation, and infrastructure. He believes that the application of economic first principles is the best guide in identifying solutions to the complex problems of today’s energy sector. He provides advice to industry players, utilities, and investors pertaining to regulation and how markets work. Mr. Schönborn provides expert testimony and helps clients navigate complex commercial arbitration and litigation involving contractual disputes and antitrust matters. While his focus is on the energy sector, he works in many other industries as well.
Mr. Schönborn’s approach to helping his clients is to identify and understand the key issues, then develop a firm response based on sound economics. He has helped gas network operators respond to challenges from new markets environments by developing regulatory regimes that are better suited to these challenges, and argue the case with regulatory authorities. These challenges pertain not only to gas markets, but also to the hydrogen sector. Thus, he has worked on future hydrogen regulation and opportunities, but also on stranding risks of gas assets, either due to changing flows or decarbonisation.
Mr. Schönborn provides expertise to clients, helping them respond to challenges related to regulation, competition, market design, liberalisation, and deregulation. Mr. Schönborn is listed by Who’s Who Legal (WWL) as Expert Witnesses - Future Leaders.
