Liquidity-driven market rally improves fortune of long/shorts

January to March proved difficult for most Japan long/short hedge funds, but there has been a marked turnaround in their fortunes since April, with a liquidity-driven market rally.

The market has picked up and there has been a five-fold increase in liquidity driven by cheap valuations and improving fortunes in the West.

Commentators suggest the Japanese government may finally have got to grips with reforms, while Japan has formed part of an accelerated Eastern revival since the Iraqi War.
