LEEDS BUILDING SOCIETY LOSES 1,000 EMPLOYEES' DETAILS

LEEDS - The UK Leeds Building Society has lost the personal and financial details of 1,000 employees during a human resources office refurbishment.

The building society has warned its employees to be vigilant for possible fraud but stressed there was no evidence the data had been stolen. Management is still looking for the records but says customer details are not at risk. It has offered full compensation for any losses that might occur.

Leeds Building Society is the UK's seventh-largest building society, with 70 branches. This data loss comes after the recent loss by HM Revenue and Customs of 25 million people's personal and financial details that were put onto a disk and then lost in the post.
