After post-Lehman anguish spilled into the start of 2009, the relative calm that followed in the second half of last year came as a welcome respite for investors – markets began to normalise, liquidity increased and there were signs of returning risk appetite. Sadly, it has proved to be all too brief. This year, regulatory uncertainty and the eurozone debt crisis have combined to produce the most volatile, illiquid markets since the peak of the crisis.
