Citi rebuilds Asia commodities team

Citigroup has made several hires to its commodities team in Singapore. The US bank has been looking to build up the division since the departure to Merrill Lynch in April 2005 of commodities head Mark Long and most of his team.

Aseem Agarwal will start next week as a commodities structurer, moving from the World Bank in Washington, DC, where he was in the group responsible for the $225 billion multi-currency portfolio.

Terry Yang, meanwhile, joined as energy marketer in late July from industrial group Mitsui & Co in London, where he was an energy marketer. He also formely worked for Citigroup in Taiwan.

Iain Lawson moved in June from Citigroup’s London office to manage the US bank's Asian distillates book. He has worked at Citigroup since 2003, managing the European distillates and 'light ends' portfolio.

Another June arrival from the London office is metals trader Jason Dobson, who has nine years’ trading experience across precious and base metals while working at Citigroup and ANZ.

Heading the team is Ananth Doraswamy, Asia-Pacific head of commodities, who relocated from Citi's New York office in November, where he oversaw the agency and supranational interest rate derivatives business.
