Asia’s bond investors hesitant to buy US dip, say dealers

Insurers and pension funds have been slower to step in than usual during sell-off

Dealers say the sell-off in US assets in recent days may be causing Asian pension funds and life insurers to change their attitude to long-dated US dollar bonds.

The turmoil that shook the US Treasury market last week has left real-money investors such as Taiwanese life insurers and Korean pension funds, which collectively own trillions of dollars in US assets, mulling how best to respond. Dealers note a cautiousness that’s untypical of these buyers at times when bond prices dip.
