MMF Treasury holdings hit record $3.7trn in August

Funds increased direct UST investment 7.1% before September reversal

US money market funds (MMFs) held a record $3.7 trillion in US Treasuries at the end of August, up 7.1% from a month earlier.

The $244.1 billion increase to holdings above the previous high of $3.5 trillion, set in December last year.

Total MMF investments grew 1.4% to a record $8.5 trillion, with USTs accounting for 43.3% of the total, the highest share since June 2021.
