People moves: Credit Suisse’s FX revamp; Barclays hires co-heads; and more

Credit Suisse has revamped its foreign exchange team. John Estrada has been named global head of FX, having served for nearly two years as global head of electronic macro trading.

Alex Manakyan has been appointed global head of FX and precious metals spot trading, replacing Jon Pierce, who left last month, according to his LinkedIn profile. Manakyan previously served as co-head of international eMacro trading. Aurelien Gleyze, who had been the other co-head of eMacro trading, has been appointed head of FX spot trading for Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA).

Daniel Docherty has become head of FX spot trading for the Americas. He was previously director of FX trading, having joined the bank in 2019 from TD Securities.

Anthony Sands has been named the bank’s head of FX sales for EMEA. Tim Joyce has also moved from his post as EMEA head of FX options trading to become global head of FX for the non-core unit – a separate unit dedicated to the winding down of non-strategic, low-return businesses.

Michael Torretta has left JP Morgan to join technology provider FIA Tech as head of strategic alliances. He will be based in New York and report to FIA chief executive Nick Solinger. According to his LinkedIn profile, Torretta spent more than two decades at JP Morgan, most recently as executive director, product development, in its global clearing and execution business.

Barclays has appointed Taylor Wright and Cathal Deasy as co-heads of investment banking. They will report to Paul Compton, president of Barclays Bank and global head of the corporate and investment bank.

Wright joined the UK bank in 2019 as co-head of Americas equity capital markets and was appointed global co-head of capital markets in 2021.

Deasy most recently served as global co-head of M&A and EMEA co-head of investment banking and capital markets at Credit Suisse. He left the Swiss bank just months after being promoted to the role.

Jonathan Bass has joined Mizuho Americas as head of relationship management in fixed income. Based in New York, he will report to the head of fixed income, Thomas Hartnett.

Bass joins from Jefferies, where he was global head of senior relationship management and global head of fixed income distribution.

Véronique Ormezzano has retired from BNP Paribas after nearly three decades at the bank, according to her LinkedIn profile. She most recently served as its head of group regulatory affairs.

Ormezzano was also chair of the prudential regulatory board at the Association for Financial Markets in Europe. She will continue working on the European Banking Authority’s banking stakeholder group and has founded a new business, Vyge Consulting.

Capital Group has appointed Michael Gitlin as its new president, chief executive and the chair of its management committee. Gitlin, currently head of fixed income, will take over from 40-year Capital Group veteran Timothy Armour. Gitlin joined the investment manager eight years ago from T Rowe Price, where he was also head of fixed income.

Martin Romo has been appointed chairman and chief investment officer. He currently serves as an equity portfolio manager and has been with Capital Group for 31 years.

Jody Jonsson has been appointed Capital Group’s vice-chair. She will maintain her positions as president of Capital Research Management Company and chair of its executive committee.

All appointments will take effect from October 24, when Armour, chairman and CEO, and Robert Lovelace, vice-chair and president, are due to step down from the management committee. Armour is to retire, while Lovelace will continue as a portfolio manager.

PGGM has named Frans de Wit as its new head of trading. His previous roles at the Dutch asset manager include principal director of treasury, trading and commodities, and head of commodities.

He reports to Arjen Pasma, chief fiduciary investments officer, and succeeds Ido de Geus, who serves as head of fixed income and was previously interim head of the now-discontinued treasury, trading and commodities unit.

Naïm Abou-Jaoudé has been appointed chief executive of New York Life Investment Management. He will report to Alain Karaoglan, head of strategic businesses at New York Life.

Abou-Jaoudé is currently chief executive of New York Life’s Candriam subsidiary, a position he has held for 16 years. Candriam’s chief investment officer, Vincent Hamelink will take over as its new chief executive.

Candriam also announced its chief sales and distribution officer Renato Guerriero would serve as deputy chief executive, leading global development and distribution.

All the appointments take effect from May 1.

The California State Teachers’ Retirement System has promoted Geraldine Jimenez to senior investment director of public markets, a role that encompasses global equity, fixed income and risk-mitigating strategies. Jimenez joined CalSTRS in 2015 and most recently served as its director of investment strategy and risk.

Mike DiRe has also been promoted to senior investment director of private markets, which encompass real estate, private equity and inflation-sensitive strategies. He has directed CalSTRS’ real estate portfolio since 2000.

Jimenez and DiRe will both report to deputy chief investment officer Scott Chan.

Jessica Hopper has left the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority, where she was head of enforcement. Her deputy, Christopher Kelly, takes over as acting head.

Hopper joined Finra in 2004 and served as deputy head of enforcement from 2016 until her promotion in 2020.

The Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation has appointed Ryan Billingsley as deputy director of capital markets and accounting policy. He most recently served as a corporate expert for capital markets. Lisa Arquette, associate director in the anti-money laundering and cyber fraud branch, has also been appointed deputy director of operational risk, a role she will assume when a replacement has been found for her current position.

Billingsley succeeds Bobby Bean and Arquette succeeds Martin Henning – both of whom are retiring.

Ravindra Madduri has joined financial technology firm Baton Systems as global head of product. He most recently served as head of enterprise business-to-business products at Paysend and has held positions at Citi, ABN Amro and Barclays.

Luke Carrivick has been appointed executive director at ORX. Carrivick has been a member of the operational risk management association’s executive team since 2016 and will replace Simon Wills, who is stepping down after 18 years in the position.
