JP Morgan nets $1.9 billion bond book gain in swift turnaround

Q4 reversal in fair-value securities powers record quarterly increase in CET1 capital

JP Morgan’s investment securities portfolio swung back into the black despite continued market vagaries in the fourth quarter, propelling its Common Equity Tier 1 (CET1) capital to a record $218.9 billion.

Unrealised changes in the securities book’s value netted a $1.9 billion gain in the last three months of 2022, the most for any quarter since Q2 2020.
