Asia moves: Trio of senior hires at Barclays, Credit Suisse and Deutsche Bank, and more
Latest job changes across the industry
Barclays Private Bank has made three senior appointments in its Singapore office. Adrian Khoo has been named as head of strategic client coverage, Jaime Huang has been appointed private banker and Ken Sze has become head of investments for Asia.
Khoo has more than 16 years’ experience in the financial services industry. He joins from Julius Baer, where he was a senior relationship manager for South-east Asia covering ultra-high-net-worth (UHNW) and family office clients. He has previously held senior roles at BNP Paribas Wealth Management, Asia Capital & Advisors, Goldman Sachs and Macquarie Bank.
Huang joins from Bank of Singapore, where she has spent the last four years as director responsible for advising UHNW and family office clients in South-east Asia and China. Huang has more than 18 years of private banking and investment advisory experience. She has previously held roles at Citigroup, HSBC and ABN Amro.
Sze relocates from London, where he was global head of the funds and exchange-traded funds business. Prior to joining Barclays, Sze worked for HSBC Private Bank in a number of investment roles including head of strategic partnerships and fund advisory in the UK and investment advisory desk head in Hong Kong.
All three appointees will report to Evonne Tan, head of Barclays Private Bank, Singapore. Sze will have an additional reporting line to Jean-Damien Marie, global co-head of investments for Barclays Private Bank.
Credit Suisse has made three senior appointments in Asia. Benjamin Cavalli has been appointed as head of wealth management for Asia-Pacific (Apac). Jin Yee Young becomes deputy head of wealth management. Chienchien Wong is named as chief executive officer (CEO) for the bank in Singapore. Meanwhile Francois Monnet, head of private banking for North Asia and chief executive of Credit Suisse’s Hong Kong branch, retires at the end of the year.
Cavalli currently holds the positions of head of private banking for South Asia, Singapore CEO and Apac sustainability leader. He has more than 25 years of investment banking and wealth management experience. Cavalli originally joined Credit Suisse in 2009. With his new appointment he will relinquish his responsibilities as Singapore CEO, but will continue to act as Apac sustainability leader.
Jin Yee Young is currently market group head for private banking in Singapore, Malaysia and South Asia Switzerland (a Zurich-based team serving clients in South Asia). Young has more than 25 years of wealth management experience, 18 of which have been with Credit Suisse. Young will report to Cavalli.
Wong is a long-term veteran of the bank, and first joined Credit Suisse First Boston in 1992. She has since held a range of management roles in internal audit, legal and compliance, as well as operational responsibilities across investment banking and private banking in Singapore, Hong Kong and New York.
Deutsche Bank Wealth Management has made three key appointments to its South-east Asia team. Felicia Tan becomes team leader, Edmund Tee becomes vice-president and Dita Darmawan becomes director. All will be based in Singapore. Tan and Tee will report to Urs Brudermann, group head for South-east Asia, while Darmawan will report Ingrid Widjaya, another group head for South-east Asia.
With 13 years of private banking experience, Tan joins from BNP Paribas Wealth Management where she was team head. Prior to that, she spent over a decade at Credit Suisse
Darmawan joins from UBS where she was a director. Prior to UBS, she was a director at Standard Chartered and a vice-president at Barclays Bank.
Tee has 17 years of experience in the banking and finance industry and joins from BNP Paribas Wealth Management where he was a vice-president. He has also worked at CIMB Private Banking and Credit Suisse.
Sun Life Financial has appointed Luc Nhon Ly as CEO of Sun Life Vietnam, following the return of former Vietnam CEO Larry Madge to Sun Life’s corporate office in Toronto.
Ly joins from AIA where he was most recently CEO of AIA Myanmar. Previously he spent 12 years as chief financial officer of AIA Vietnam. Ly has also held roles with ACE Life in Vietnam and Canada Life in Toronto. Ly will report to Ingrid Johnson, president of Sun Life Asia.
Allianz has named Anusha Thavarajah as regional CEO of Allianz Asia-Pacific. Thavarajah replaces Solmaz Altin who has decided to leave the organization after 13 years with the company. Anusha joined the firm in 2019 and is currently regional CEO of life and health.
Thavarajah has more than 30 years of experience in the financial services industry, having served in various senior leadership roles in the UK, Hong Kong and Malaysia. Her most recent role before Allianz was at AIA Malaysia.
AIA has appointed of Leo Grepin as regional chief executive and group chief strategy officer, reporting to Lee Yuan Siong, group CEO. He replaces Mark Saunders, who will be retiring in March. Grepin joins from Sun Life where he was president of Asia.
Previously, Grepin was at Bridgewater Associates, where he led the team that managed portfolio construction and trade generation for all the funds. Grepin also spent 15 years at consultancy firm McKinsey.
Value Partners has named James Ong as head of South-east Asia and CEO of Singapore. Based in Singapore, Ong brings over 25 years of leadership and sales management experience from leading financial institutions. Most recently, Ong was managing director and head of South-east Asia at State Street Global Advisors, where he oversaw the firm’s institutional and intermediary businesses in the region.
Ong has also worked for HSBC Asset Management, UOB Asset Management and a number of boutique investment advisory firms and insurance companies. Ong will report to the group’s president, June Wong.
