Nordic, UK banks have highest countercyclical buffers

Nordea, Lloyds and RBS had the largest add-ons of banks surveyed

Nordea reported the highest countercyclical buffer (CCyB) rate out of a sample of 24 large European banks at end-2018.

The Helsinki-based bank posted a CCyB of 0.9% of risk-weighted assets (RWAs), which has to be covered by Common Equity Tier 1 (CET1) capital. The average buffer across the sample was 0.23%.
