Gas storage parking lot full

More US natural gas storage is needed if price spikes are to be alleviated in the coming months experts believe, but construction interest is limited, finds David Watkins

Concerns are mounting that current US gas storage capacity may not be sufficient to cushion against price spikes caused by supply disruptions or sudden demand hikes in the months ahead.

Gas storage capacity in the US has shrunk considerably as a percentage of demand over the last two decades. While total natural gas demand has increased 24% since 1988, gas storage capacity has expanded by only 1.4%
