Opening up Germany’s gas market

The German government has yet to step forward and commit to the European objective of an internal market for natural gas. Dr Jörg Spicker of Aquila Energy GmbH says now is the time for action

The liberalisation of the German gas market is at present a story of unrealised potential. Life for the overwhelming majority of Germany�s gas customers continues pretty much as it was before the formal passage of the European gas directive in 1998 � which aims to create one internal, open market for natural gas in the European community.
