Jonathan Laredo is a breed apart from the new crop of young and thrusting hedge fund managers who have made their names - and fortunes - by their late 20s trading complex derivatives at global investment banks.

Having started out at the UK's Inland Revenue, he was 30 before he even began working at a bank, joining Bankers Trust in 1989 as a tax specialist, and moving from there into government bond
