Last year was a record year for corporate issuance from the Nordic region. This year,UPM Kymmene has already attracted attention with a 15-year euro bond, and industry consolidation should help to underpin new issue volumes in 2002. David Watts reports.

In mid-January, when most people were still dining on Christmas leftovers, Finnish forestry products company UPM Kymmene was wasting no time in bringing to market the first Nordic credit offering of 2002.
