Credit crisis good for Basel II risk models, says OTS chief

LONDON - Basel II has weathered the challenges of the credit crunch well and has been strengthened by the volatile market data this summer's turbulence has yielded, according to the head of a US regulator.

Speaking in London, John Reich, director of the Office of Thrift Supervision (OTS), told a delegation of the British Bankers Association last month: "The events of recent weeks have given us a ton of [data] to make risk models function more effectively than they would have prior to the turbulence."
