A vision of change

As dramas such as the subprime crisis and Société Générale's rogue-trading losses unfold, firms are finally starting to realise the value of operational risk. Now is the time for the discipline to demonstrate its worth. By Ellen Davis

The future of operational risk is now. It's as though the op risk discipline has drawn a line under the past 18 months of uncertainty and - in some quarters - disillusionment and is now marching boldly into the future with a vision of change. The rogue-trader losses at French bank Société Générale are only going to add momentum.

Make no mistake - without change the discipline would have shrivelled
