MBS dealers face increased operational stress

NEW YORK - Primary dealers in the mortgage-backed securities (MBS) market are experiencing difficulty with their operational capacity to meet clearing and settlement obligations, according to new research.

The latest data from Basis Point Group's mortgage-backed securities operations performance index shows the operational stress on internal functions among the 23 largest primary MBS dealers in the US is increasing as market uncertainty about exposures to subprime mortgage portfolios continues.
