Thirsting for water stocks

The global water sector is expected to be a popular investment theme for high-net-worth investors during 2008, as they look for stable long-term growth stories in an uncertain market. Michael Marray reports

Even since the current global credit crunch gathered steam, big acquisitions have been made in the water sector. Last October saw highly competitive bidding for Southern Water in the UK, for example, with the company eventually sold for £4.2 billion to a consortium comprising JP Morgan, UBS and the Challenger Infrastructure Fund of Australia.
