Futures: The countdown begins

China is well on the way to launching its long-awaited index futures contract - the first futures product to be released in the country since the infamous 1995 bond futures scandal. Kathleen Kearney looks at what steps have recently been taken in preparation for the launch, and what remains to be done

The stage is set for the re-launch of financial futures trading in Shanghai and important steps were unveiled on June 27 and July 2 bringing the repeatedly delayed launch date much closer.

At the end of June, the China Financial Futures Exchange, which will list the futures contracts based on the Composite Shanghai-Shenzhen Index 300 (CSI 300), released the rules governing trading in index futures
