Regulatory reprieve

South Korea is poised to introduce legal reforms that should strengthen the regulatory framework underpinning the domestic structured finance market. By Hardeep Dhillon

The newly elected South Korean government plans to move ahead with proposed amendments to the Assset-backed Securitisation (ABS) Act that would relax regulations for collateralised debt obligations (CDOs) and asset-backed securities (ABSs). The aim is to increase liquidity, broaden the range of market participants in structured finance and boost investor activity.
