Despite rangebound oil prices for most of last year, energy trading remained vibrant and innovative in 2011 with many groundbreaking deals. Several banks came up with pioneering solutions for credit constrained energy companies and energy traders moved into new markets and new regions. With historically high energy prices, and increased volatility at the start of 2011, risk management remained high on the agenda.
