Institutions shun absolute returns

Expert studies have painted a grim picture of institutional interest in hedge funds, with pension fund investment set to be a slow and cautious affair, while insurance companies' allocation is not expected to rise.

Alvar Chambers, investment principle and actuary at Aon Consulting, said pension funds offered 'lots of talk but little action,' on further investment in hedge funds, action stalled by the 'herd- mentality' of conservative pension fund trustees.
