People moves: HKEX’s Charles Li to leave, new Isda directors, and more
Latest job changes across the industry
Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing is looking for a new chief executive after incumbent Charles Li announced he will not look to renew his contract when it expires in October 2021.
Li joined HKEX in 2009 and has served as chief executive since 2010. He previously worked at JP Morgan China and Merrill Lynch China. HKEX’s board has formed a selection committee to search for Li’s successor.
The exchange also announced that Laura May-Lung Cha has been reappointed as chairman of the board, a position she has held since 2018.
The International Swaps and Derivatives Association has named two new directors to its board: Tina Hasenpusch, global head of clearing house operations at CME Group, and Taihei Okabe, head of derivatives trading at Mizuho Securities. Hasenpusch joined CME in 2009 after spells at Barclays Capital and Eurex. Okabe joined Mizuho Financial Group in 1997 and has held positions in Tokyo and London.
Doris Honold has been appointed independent non-executive director and chair of the risk committee at Credit Suisse International and Credit Suisse Securities Europe. Honold previously spent 12 years at Standard Chartered, where her last role was group chief operating officer. Before that, she held a variety of posts at Dresdner Bank, where she worked for 13 years.
BNP Paribas has appointed Florence Pourchet as head of the commercial and investment bank for Latin America. Pourchet will retain her post as head of corporate social responsibility for the Americas, advising Hervé Duteil, BNP Paribas Americas chief sustainability officer. Country heads for Brazil, Colombia and Mexico will report to Pourchet, who has worked at BNP Paribas for 30 years.
Alexander von zur Mühlen has succeeded Werner Steinmüller as Asia-Pacific chief executive at Deutsche Bank. Steinmüller will step down at the end of July after nearly 30 years at the bank but will stay on in an advisory role until the end of the year. Von zur Mühlen has held a number of positions since joining Deutsche Bank in 1998, including co-head of debt capital markets, group treasurer and global head of group strategy.
Deutsche Bank has also appointed Kamran Khan as head of environmental, social and governance for Asia-Pacific. In the newly created post, Khan will be based in Singapore and report to the Asia-Pacific chief executive. Khan previously served in the Obama administration as head of global investments and operations at the US Millennium Challenge Corporation, a foreign aid agency.
Daniel Cazeaux has joined asset manager Royal London as group chief financial officer, starting in early June. Cazeaux will be part of the group executive committee and board of directors, reporting to group chief executive Barry O’Dwyer. Cazeaux previously worked as an audit partner at accountancy firm KPMG.
The previous group chief financial officer, Tim Harris, left in September last year to become chief financial officer at UK insurer Direct Line. David Rush, on secondment from consultancy Deloitte, has filled the role on an interim basis since then.
Legal & General Investment Management has named Brenda Sklar as global chief operating officer. Sklar joins after a 24-year spell at BlackRock, most recently as head of global client services and global chief operating officer of business operations. She previously worked at Merrill Lynch, according to her LinkedIn profile. Sklar will be based in Chicago and report to chief executive Michelle Scrimgeour.
LGIM’s head of global operations, Lee Toms, and chief technology officer, Robert Jamieson, have jointly filled the role on an acting basis since October 2018 when the previous chief operating officer, Michael Marks, moved internally to become head of strategy.
Aegon Asset Management has made a series of new hires for its alternative fixed income team. Philip van der Meijden, George Konings and Mickey Teunissen join as investment managers, and George Nijborg joins as co-manager of the firm’s corporate private placement strategy. The Netherlands-based alternative fixed income team is led by Frank Meijer.
Davina Goodall-Smith has been appointed chief operating officer of Nikko Asset Management Europe. She joins from BNP Paribas Securities Services, where she held several roles, including head of senior relationship management for asset managers, according to her LinkedIn profile. She previously worked at Barclays Wealth and Barclays Bank.
Dutch asset manager NN Investment Partners has named Marcin Adamczyk as head of emerging market debt. Based in The Hague, Adamczyk will report to Edith Siermann, head of fixed income and responsible investing. Until Adamczyk’s arrival, Siermann also served as interim head of emerging market debt. Adamczyk joins from Polish insurer PZU, where he was chief executive of the asset management unit TFI PZU.
Ashley Alder will serve another three-year term as chief executive of Hong Kong’s Securities and Futures Commission when his current term ends on September 30. The regulatory body said Alder had considered stepping down from the position he has held since 2011 but will stay on given the current market and economic uncertainty. He has also served as chair of the board of the International Organization of Securities Commissions since 2016.
Joachim Nagel will join the Bank for International Settlements as deputy head of banking. A member of the executive board of German state-owned development bank KfW Bank, Nagel previously worked at Deutsche Bundesbank for 17 years. He was also a member of the BIS Markets Committee for 10 years.
Thomas Barkhuff has been appointed chief information officer at FX settlement firm CLS. Overseeing the company’s technology and information security strategy and operations, Barkhuff will report to chief executive officer Marc Bayle de Jessé. Barkhuff joins from CGI, an IT and business consultancy, where he was chief technology officer of the finance and insurance team. He previously held positions at TD Bank and Bank of America.
