Insurers oppose Eiopa power grab

A new European supervisor would be ‘unpleasant’ for the insurance industry

Insurers are opposing calls to grant new regulatory powers to the European Insurance and Occupational Pensions Authority (Eiopa).

European insurers and trade bodies fear that promoting Eiopa to a de facto insurance regulator status would infringe on the national sovereignty of member states and lead to regulations that fail to take account of the regional differences between insurance markets.
