Water is essential for human survival and is also necessary for nearly every sector of human activity - agriculture, industrial production and power generation and as a way to transport people and goods. According to the United Nations, an estimated 10% of world water withdrawal is used for domestic consumption, 20% for industrial and 70% for irrigated agriculture.
