Duelling with deposits

A deluge of deposits offering attractive rates is flooding the territory of structured products in Spain. But with volatility at its highest and regulatory changes embracing derivatives, the ground is fertile for the rise of structured products. Emma Dunkley talks to asset manager Fineco

The Spanish structured products market has had a rough ride since the first quarter of 2008, as investment banks continue to battle with deposits offering attractive rates amid the bearish market environment. With some deposits yielding 5% a year, structured products are struggling to challenge these competitive rates while still providing capital protection.
