High hopes, few trades

Asia’s exchanges have been enthusiastic about the prospects for single-stock futures and options in their various markets, but trading volumes and liquidity have yet to meet expectations. Roger Hogan reports

The single-stock futures and options markets in Asia have so far failed to attract significant liquidity, particularly from retail investors, but there appears to be no shortage of exchanges keen either to enter the sector or list additional products.

The Taiwan Futures Exchange became the latest newcomer in January when it listed options on five major companies traded on the Taiwan
