2012年にコルン・ハームスはケルン大学で経済数学の修士号（MSc）を取得しました。その後、ドイツのアーサー・アンダーセン・アンド・ヤングの金融サービス部門でコンサルタントとしてのキャリアをスタートさせました。2014年に、彼は金融数学分野への関心を一部再開することを決意し、デュイスブルク・エッセン大学エネルギー取引と金融の講座で非常勤研究員として研究を開始しました。研究では、電力市場とエネルギー取引における実践的な数学的側面（例えば、ヘッジ戦略の数学的導出）に焦点を当てています。現代の数学モデルと実践への応用との橋渡しを目指しています。2016年10月、アーサー・アンダーセンでの4年間の勤務を終了しました。
