Case study: Friends Life’s investment governance framework

Insurer Friends Life has completed a major overhaul of the investment governance structure of its UK life businesses. Chief investment officer Mark Versey tells Michael Faulkner how this was achieved

Friends Life at One New Change

Friends Life began work on overhauling its investment governance framework in September 2010, following the merger of Friends Provident with Axa’s UK life business, which created the Friends Life brand, the fifth largest UK life business by market capitalisation.

The project, led by Friends Life’s chief investment officer, Mark Versey, who had joined the business from Axa, was driven by a need to create a more efficient framework for making investment decisions.
