As European regulators and insurance companies grapple with developing and implementing the Solvency II directive, it should come as some comfort to see a similar risk-based capital regime working successfully next door in Switzerland.

Covering many of the requirements laid out within Solvency II, the Swiss Solvency Test (SST) has had a dramatic effect on how the Swiss insurance industry manages risk – providing it with an encouraging position for Solvency II
