This month should see publication of the final version of Basel III, just one short year after an initial consultation on the measures was published.

The package represents a Herculean effort by the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision. Under pressure from the Group of 20 leaders to plug the holes exposed by the crisis, regulators have penned new rules on counter-cyclicality, liquidity and counterparty credit risk, developed a leverage ratio and lifted minimum capital requirements – all done
