Over the past year, commodities as an asset class has undergone a dramatic change, as the strong correlation between commodities and other asset classes that emerged during the global financial crisis began to ease and fundamental factors in the underlying commodities re-emerged in late 2013 as the primary drivers of price.

The increasing role being played by fundamental supply and demand factors also means correlation between individual commodities has eroded, making life harder for investment
