Minor recovery in January for Swiss market

Swiss structured product market volumes made a minor recovery in January, increasing moderately from the subdued December 2008 performance which saw volumes dip to their lowest numbers for the year.

The number of products listed on the Scoach exchange increased by 3% month-on-month, a difference of 666 products, according to data provided by the Swiss Structured Products Association. The boost still leaves volumes far off their November 2008 levels, which were 15% higher than those recorded in January.

Turnover has also made a moderate upturn, reaching Sfr 2.8 billion (US$2.4 billion), which was a 5% regain on the previous month. Leveraged products still represent over a third of all listed
