UK bank securitisation exposures on the rise

Originate-to-distribute engine revs up

The four largest UK banks’ exposures to securitised loans has grown by £24 billion ($30 billion) in four years, on the back of intensified origination activity.

Aggregate exposures to securitisations of corporate and small and medium-sized (SME) loans at Barclays, HSBC, Lloyds and RBS stood at £32.7 billion at end-2017, up from £9.1 billion at end-2014.

Of this aggregate, £28.7 billion were related to originated positions, reflecting exposures retained by the banks of the loans they have
