In-depth discussions over how best to respond to the new world of central clearing have been under way at most global banks for some time. A few have begun to roll out client clearing services, keen to tap into the new revenue opportunities this could bring (see pages 52–55).

South Africa is a little behind the curve. While the US and European Union have powered ahead in developing new rules on over-the-counter derivatives that put central clearing at their heart, countries not as badly affected
