People: Deutsche’s Leake heads to Goldman

Gill departs CME; Mizuho bolsters quant ranks

Tom Leake, Deutsche Bank's global head of equity structuring, is leaving the German lender to join Goldman Sachs in early 2017. His position at Goldman will be head of equity structuring for Europe, Middle East and Africa. Leake has been with Deutsche since 2009, having previously been European head of equity structuring. Before that, he worked for a small hedge fund.

The Wall Street Journal reported Leake would be replaced by Sean Flanagan, who currently serves as European head of equity structuring. Deutsche Bank declined to comment. Based in London, Leake will report to Guy Saidenberg, Goldman's global head of structuring.

Ram Thothadri, Deutsche Bank's co-head of debt capital markets financing and solutions for central and eastern Europe, Middle East and Africa, has taken an indefinite leave of absence, Risk.net has learned.

Dubai-based Thothadri co-headed the group alongside Zoltan Kurali, who is based in Budapest.


CME Group chief executive Phupinder Gill is to leave the bourse at the end of the year. During his 28 years at CME, Gill has served in various positions across operations and clearing, becoming chief executive in 2012.

Terry Duffy, CME's executive chairman, has assumed the role of chairman and chief executive. Bryan Durkin, CME's chief commercial officer, has been promoted to president. A 30-year veteran of the Merc, Durkin was responsible for the group's global operations, technology, product and business development, as well as international expansion and sales functions.


Mizuho has made two senior hires within its derivatives trading business, Charles Minton and Shelta Kodjo. Minton will serve as head of XVA derivatives trading and Kodjo will head the bank's quantitative strategies.

Both hires will report to Takehiko Ariga, the bank's head of global derivatives trading for Mizuho Capital Markets. They will be responsible for calculating and managing counterparty credit risk, cost of funding, collateral and capital for swaps transactions at the firm. Kodjo's responsibilities will also include designing and implementing new financial products, trading and hedging strategies and proprietary valuation models.

Before joining Mizuho, both Minton and Kodjo worked at Bank of America. Kodjo was the bank's managing director in the XVA quantitative research group, with 14 years of experience in derivatives pricing, valuation and risk modelling.

Minton worked for Merrill Lynch for nine years, with his most recent role being head of global FVA trading. His other roles at Bank of America included head strategist, flow credit trading and co-head of global currency options trading.

The Securities and Exchange Commission has announced the departure of Stephen Luparello, director of the division of trading and markets. He was appointed as director of the office in 2014.

Before joining the commission, Luparello was a partner at WilmerHale, specialising in broker-dealer compliance, securities litigation and enforcement. The position will be taken by Heather Seidel, who has been chief counsel for the division of trading and markets since 2015. The role reports to SEC chair Mary Jo White.


Icap has filled two senior roles within its post-trade risk and information (PTRI) services division. Guy Rowcliffe has been named head of PTRI Asia-Pacific and will be in charge of developing Icap's strategy in the region, as well as representing the company among regulators, industry bodies and committees.

Rowcliffe will take on the new responsibilities while still working as chief executive for Reset, Icap's post-trade risk mitigation service. He will now report to Jenny Knott, chief executive of Icap's PTRI division.

Another appointment to Icap's PTRI division is Stuart Connolly, who now heads client product development. He will be responsible for developing client data services working alongside data analytics teams in the division.

Connolly will also report to Knott and will be based in London. Before joining Icap, Connolly worked for Goldman Sachs, with his most recent position being head of derivatives clearing services for Europe, Middle East and Africa. His other roles included senior positions in derivatives clearing and prime brokerage at Goldman.


GTX, the foreign exchange trading arm of broker Gain Capital, has appointed Edward Brown as chief executive of its swap execution facility. Before joining GTX, Brown served as head of strategic initiatives at EBS BrokerTec and held various senior roles in Icap's electronic trading division, where he oversaw regulatory matters related to OTC derivatives with a particular focus on Dodd-Frank.


Nasdaq has announced that from January 1, its president in charge of global trading and market services, Hans-Ole Jochumsen, will become the group's vice-chairman. Prior to joining Nasdaq in 2008, Jochumsen ran the Copenhagen Stock Exchange which later merged with OMX and then Nasdaq. During his career in Copenhagen, he spent over 20 years in various roles at BG Bank, Giro Bank and BRFkredit, as well as serving as chair of the European Federation of Exchanges between 2010 and 2013.

In 2014, Jochumsen became Nasdaq's president and has since led the acquisitions of Chi-X Canada and International Securities Exchange, as well as overseeing the launch of Nasdaq's US commodities exchange NFX.

Nasdaq has also announced that Adena Friedman will become its chief executive from January 1. She currently serves as Nasdaq's chief financial officer and president. At the beginning of the year, she will also join the board of directors.

Friedman will replace Bob Greifeld, who will become chairman of the board. Borje Ekholm, Nasdaq's chairman, will step down on December 31, however he will still remain on the board of directors. Ekholm will become the new chief executive of Ericsson in January.

Friedman has held different positions within Nasdaq since 1993, ranging from head of data products to chief financial officer, aside from a three-year spell as chief financial officer at Carlyle Group from 2011-2014.


Mahnaz Safa has been hired by ANZ as head of markets, Europe and America. Mahnez has been covering these regions for 25 years. She will report to Shayne Collins, ANZ's managing director of markets, and Diana Brightmore-Armour, the bank's UK, Europe and Middle East chief executive.

Safa previously worked at Citi, where she held the position of head of markets origination for Europe, Middle East and America. Prior to joining Citi, she worked at UBS as co-head of debt capital markets for Europe, Middle East and Africa. Safa will be based in London.

 

UniCredit has made several changes in its syndication and capital markets divisions.

Christian Reusch becomes head of global syndicate and capital markets. Formerly co-head of global syndicate alongside Tim Hoffmeister, he will now report to Richard Burton and Andreas Mayer, co-heads of global financing and advisory.

Reusch joined the bank in 1995, and since then has been in various positions including global head of investment-grade corporate origination and debt syndicate as well as global head of debt capital markets. Luca Falco will become Reusch's deputy and will report directly to him.

In another intra-group move, Clemens Popp is appointed global head of debt origination. Popp, who has been with the bank since 1990, will also report to Reusch.

Reusch's predecessor, Marco Bales, has moved to a new position within UniCredit: head of markets for Germany. The bank's former head of markets for Germany, Tong Lee, continues in his role as global head of rates. Bales joined Unicredit in 1999.

Andrew Aziz has joined IHS Markit as global head of analytics. Aziz previously worked for IBM as head of strategy, quantitative analytics and research for the risk analysis function. He held senior executive management positions at Algorithmics for 17 years, before its acquisition by IBM in 2011.

Aziz is based in Toronto, and reports to the former head of analytics, Yaacov Mutnikas, who is now IHS Markit's executive vice president for financial market technologies.

Roni Grushka, co-founder of IHS Markit, has been appointed to Algomi's board of directors. Grushka has held various posts at IHS Markit including global head of corporate strategy and chief financial officer.

 

Debra Herschmann has joined JP Morgan as head of its corporate and investment banking user experience, leaving Goldman Sachs. During her nine years at Goldman, she was responsible for establishing and leading the global user experience design practice, developing digital solutions for institutional clients and internal users across all business lines. Her previous positions also include user experience lead at Lehman Brothers. Herschmann will report to David Hudson, head of markets execution.
