Netherlands’ Wellink survives resignation calls

Nout Wellink, the president of the Netherlands Bank and the chairman of the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision, on Thursday survived a motion of no confidence in the Dutch parliament's lower house.

Roland van Vliet, a member of the Freedom Party, had called on Jan Kees de Jager, the Dutch finance minister, to sack Wellink, whose term is not up for another year. However, the motion only garnered the support of 29 members of the 150-strong chamber.
