No changes yet as Basel III redrafting looms

Basel Committee members are seeking to fend off speculation they have already decided to abandon or rewrite key elements of their proposals.

Despite mounting pressure to shelve the most controversial elements of its proposed changes to the Basel II framework, the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision is standing by its draft rules – at least until its next meeting on July 14–15.

Dealers may have thought they had wrung a concession from regulators on June 25 when, ahead of the Group of 20 leaders meeting in Toronto, press reports claimed a consensus on the Basel Committee had agreed to water down the proposals by shelving the net
