BarCap appoints head of foreign exchange strategy

David Woo will take charge of foreign exchange strategy as a director for Barclays Capital in London, effective June 9.

Woo joins from Citigroup Global Markets, where he was head of local markets strategy for central and eastern Europe, Middle East and Africa, as well as global strategist for proprietary trading. Prior to that he was an economist at the International Monetary Fund.

In his new role he will report to Larry Kantor, head of economics and market strategy. Kantor said Woo would become an integral part of the global economics and market strategy team. “David will lead the effort to produce foreign exchange research of the highest quality to enable our clients to make the most informed investment decisions,” he added.

The economics and strategy team has seen a number of additions in recent months. Julian Callow joined as head of European economics, Bulent Baygun as head of US fixed-income strategy, Will Brown came as an economics adviser, Paul Horsnell to head energy research, Alan James to head the research effort for European inflation-linked bonds and Michael Hood to cover emerging markets research.
