Gupta to co-head credit trading at RBS

Sanjeev Gupta, formerly a managing director for credit derivatives at Credit Suisse First Boston (CSFB), has come out of retirement to help spearhead the build-up of Royal Bank of Scotland’s (RBS) integrated credit business in the US.

Gupta will work at the UK bank’s Greenwich, Connecticut, office as co-head of global credit trading. He says the lure of building a credit trading business was the reason for coming out of retirement. He will work alongside RBS’s other co-head of global credit trading, London-based Stewart Booth.

At present, RBS has a team of around 30 staff working in credit trading, sales and marketing. Gupta says this figure is set to rise to 40 by the end of the year.

Gupta left CSFB in March last year, at around the same time its head of global credit derivatives, Mark Davies, defected to Bear Stearns.
